PREMIER SIDE PHYSIOTHERAPISTS KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT
26 April 2011
Wolverhampton Wanderers FC leads the premiership league in knowing exactly how to get the best out of the NHS. Being one of the country’s leaders in Sport Physiotherapy and the management of physical health the Club immediately took the early advantage by investing at its State of Art Jack Hayward Training Centre the country’s first fully researched multi-functional exercise platform that was invented by the NHS.
The RehabAngel® is a multi-functional knee and calf rehabilitation platform for use within physiotherapy, podiatry and sports rehabilitation that provides variable angular rehabilitation. The device ensures a variable and measured range of graduated non-weight bearing, partial weight bearing and full weight bearing exercises to be undertaken targeting specific muscle groups in the lower limbs.
Jordan Keane, Wolves Centre Midfield player was the first to try out the new equipment under the watchful eye of Steve Kemp, Head of the Wolves Medical Department who said “We were very interested to get hold of the product when we first heard about it. Decline squats has been a key part of rehabilitation of patella tendon rehab and has substantial evidence to back it up. In the past we have tried to manufacture our own decline squat to assist us with our rehab and never found anything as professional and variable. The Rehab angel has answered all our needs – and probably a few more! It is a use tool and will become a key part of our armoury in our rehabilitation of lower limb pathologies”.
The invention the brainchild of Neil Frame NHS Specialist Podiatrist of East Cheshire NHS Trust said “after being introduced to local Wolverhampton based Medical Devices Technology (MDTi) through Prof Jim Richards of UCLAN with TrusTECH the NHS Innovation Hub in the North West I knew the prospect of translating my concept into a fully blown evidence based product, that would be manufactured in the UK, was too much of an exciting proposition to ignore and I have now realized my dream of swiftly taking a piece of rehabilitation and training equipment from initial prototype into a Premiership club as well as seeing it distributed by the world’s largest player in rehabilitation equipment in Patterson Medicals .”
The RehabAngel is manufactured for MDTi by Evac+Chair International Ltd based in Birmingham, Mark Wallace MD of Evac+Chair commented. We have worked closely with MDTi for several years now from design through to manufacture and believe that the RehabAngel will prove to be a world class product.
Martin Levermore, Chief Executive Officer of MDTi, said: “this is and more is what can be achieved when NHS professionals, academia and the private sector genuinely seek to work together”.
